The gas obtained from underground coal gasification mainly has the following uses: for power generation; for industrial gas; extraction of pure hydrogen, further use in reducing gas and fine chemical products; for civil gas in cities; for synthesizing methane, entering natural gas pipe nets; used in chemical synthesis of raw material gas, through gas to synthesise methanol, ammonia, dimethyl ether, petroleum and so on.
At present, China's underground gasification gas is mainly used for city gas, power generation, ammonia synthesis, dimethyl ether synthesis, and extraction of pure hydrogen.
The significance of underground coal gasification is not only its economic benefits, but also its improvement in the energy structure and enhancement in the safety of coal mine production. After the coal gasification, the ash remains in place, eliminating pollution such as waste gas, waste water, waste, and reducing the ground subsidence caused by coal mining.
This technology can greatly improve the recycling rate of resources, so that the marginal coal, deep coal, "three-bottom" compressed coal and the coal pillars left in or is about to be abandoned by the traditional technology to be successfully mined, and can also effectively utilise coal resources in extremely harsh and deep mining conditions.
